The Private Duplex Residence at Hammamhane — the staircase corner with the long living room below and the dormer window of the upper bedroom just visible.

Room 02 · Two floors · Top of the heritage building

Private Duplex Residence

50 m² · up to 4 guests · 1 walk-in bath

An apartment with a staircase

Two floors for the trip that turns into a stay.

The Duplex Residence sits at the top of the heritage building, the only room with its own staircase. Downstairs is the living half — a long sofa, the kitchen, an oak table that seats four, and a wall of north-facing windows looking down onto the courtyard. Upstairs is the bedroom under the eaves, a small writing desk by the dormer window, and the kind of quiet you only get on the top floor of a Beyoğlu building.

Fifty square metres is generous for two and right for four. The sofa converts; the second bedroll is stored in the lower cupboard; the kitchenette has a real oven, not just a hob, which is the difference between heating something and cooking. We have hosted writers who finished a book up here and families who used the table for jigsaw puzzles on a rainy week. Both are correct uses.

The bathroom is the one piece of contemporary architecture in the room — pale tadelakt walls, a deep walk-in shower, brass fittings that age the way they should. The laundry is tucked behind a folding door beside it; the underfloor heating runs through both levels on a single thermostat by the front door.

It is the residence we recommend for guests staying five nights or more. By the third morning you stop unpacking and start living in it. By the fifth, you have a favourite tea cup. The street outside is still Çukurcuma — antique shops on one side, the hamam dome at the end of the lane, the rest of Beyoğlu nine minutes downhill.

Wellness privilege: 10% off at Çukurcuma Hamamı 1831, included for direct-book guests of the residence.
